Route 66 trip

Me and my oldest grandson started our route 66 trip on Friday. Drove 700 miles from sulphur Louisiana to Burbon Missouri. We are driving the Barracuda. We will travel to Tucumcari New Mexico then head home. Planning on stopping at different places along the way. 1st day visited small rt 66 museum then checked in to Munger Moss Motel. I will try to keep y'all posted on what we see and do.
Yesterday cuda rolled over to 100k miles. Well after that I noticed at a idle the amp gauge would discharge. In looking the positive post is loose. Scared to touch it so I picked one up a NAPA dealer and will replace it when it dies.

Looking forward to more posts! So much to see from OK on, the part I have been on the most. Try to stop at the Mid Point Cafe in Adrian Texas. If you are there around lunch, get a milk shake!

That's the trip of a lifetime right there. Nothing better than dad and grandson on a road trip down Rt 66!
 
Awesome! Glad you are doing it. We did Illinois to the Grand Canyon on Rt 66 in 2018 in the '77 RC. Just an awesome trip!
 
Visit the Blue Whale before you hit Tulsa... Lots of old cars along the route, too.

I tried to find all the old bits of the road, too. I ran it in my early truck driving days before the Interstate was done around '78.

11TH STREET IN TULSA-----
 
There's an old truck stop midway thru Missouri...on north side of the highway out of sight on the old road. Gold brick building. May be at Cuba.

Another gem is to exit near the amusement park west of St Louis. The old road is south of the highway. Neat old rock formations to see.

My wife and I did a section of the highway from Bloomington to Tulsa years ago. We wound up in private driveways in MO in our search for the early road. Fun.
 
Another gem is Oatman AZ... Imagine 1930's trucks running a pass so steep they needed to back up the grade since reverse had a steeper gear. Or get towed up with a chain by another truck with a lighter load.

Open is a good word for Amboy :lol: Those few creosote bushes are about the only thing that will grow out there :lol: I'm allowed to talk S%$t about the Mojave because I was born and raised out there:rofl: It was a good place to grow up :D

besides critters and snakes.... :)
 
Of all the critters to see out in that neighborhood, there are Big Horn Sheep out there. Few and far between, but they are there, seen 'em myself.
 
When you get to Albuquerque you have to take a late night trip to Angels Overlook on old 66 west of the city...fabulous lights.

For 40 years I made an effort to pull over and sleep there... waking up to the early sunrise was amazing.
