Rubber tip on the brake rod

When i removed the old master cylinder there was a small piece of rubber at the tip of the brake rod from the pedal that crumbled off. Not much of it was left.

Do I absolutely need it for a new master cylinder and if I need it, what is it called and where do I get one??

yes you do need it, it retains the pushrod!

Fuel line will get soft and the rod will come out eventually and you will not have brakes, To install that rod you must remove it from the pedal under the dash. Install it into the master cylinder and pop it in place with force. You will not be able to get it out easy and save that ring. So if you have a boot and plastic cover put it on the rod first, usually if the rod came out that easy it had hose on it instead of the proper material ring. .

DO NOT use fuel hose. You don't want this brake pushrod falling out later in life.

The rubber piece gets installed on the brake rod frost, then pushed into the piston. It won't work the other way.

So $16.65 for a piece of rubber that fits on the tip of your pinky and that's if USPS doesn't lose it like lose everything else

Put the state in and recalculate. The shipping system on his website is not the best. Might be worth a call if that's what you want.

Its no secret that shipping costs nowadays are pretty outrageous, but even with the inflated shipping, its really not that expensive, especially to get a part that was made to fit and function properly. I also need one of these for my brake changeover, and Ill be buying a proper one rather than juryrigging some hose just to save a few bucks. Piece of mind is worth it :)
 
NOT needed for power brakes. The pushrod is captured inside the booster linkage.
As far as manual, in theory an inferior "retainer" grommet could fail and allow the pushrod to pull rearward and slip out of the hole.
Slipping out of the hole is rarely a good thing. I've never had that happen with a brake system even though I've parted out several old cars and found the grommet either hard as a stone, worn out or missing.

So under $20 to have the right part shipped directly to your door from an American run business that’s been supporting Mopars for decades, no effort needed on your behalf beyond a couple clicks. Nope, that’s crazy!

And we wonder why there aren’t more Mopar specific businesses making quality products for our hobby.
 
this thread reinforces two things:

1- people are cheap
2- always, always go over a car front to back after you buy it.

Cass does sell them on his eBay listing for $10 and free shipping. Shows out of stock at the moment.

Call him, I bet he’ll work with you on your shipping.

Come on, man. Sometimes it just feels wrong to pay through the *** for something so damned simple. The grommets probably cost less than a dollar each to make but somehow it is acceptable to pay 20 times that to buy one and have it mailed to you?
I retired from construction making over $60/hr plus all benefits so I know that nobody works for free. A reasonable person should be willing to pay a reasonable price. If an envelope and postage is $3 and the grommet itself retails for $3, why the extreme inflation of the price?
We have all seen instances where shipping rates have exploded but ....

Almost $14 to ship it?
Even their smallest flat rate box is $11.00 and you could fit 500 of those grommets in it.

yes, but... you still gotta pay somebody to pick it, box it up, print off the label and tape up the box.

brewer's absolutely murdered me on a speedo gear, but that's the price of admission. they have the website, they have the part, they have to pay to stock it, they have to pay for somebody to throw it in a box and send it my way.

it is what it is, and i'll gladly pay that extra few bucks knowing that i'm supporting a business that supports our hobby. i remember the dark ages of getting on the phone and tracking down parts and sending cash or checks via USPS and waiting weeks hoping the right stuff showed up. that extra $5 on the shipping is the tax i'll pay for having more parts than we've ever hoped right at our fingertips delivered quickly.

I've had this happen a few times , Sometimes it CAN get a little messy , and if lucky just re insert and carry on !

And as far as shipping I send stuff all over the country for $5
