time to replace valve seals on the 1965 273 dart charger engine. question is >>
what style umbrella rubber seals go on the oem 65 273 commando head?
I did not pull them out yet to see what style is in there.. My over haul gaskets sets have two different length rubbers seals for that engine .

one set that is approx 3/4" length and the other is 3/8" length ( shorter ). what size goes on which exh and int valve?
the engine is smoking pretty bad so I pulled the vlave covers off and looked inside and there were pieces of hard rubber seals all over the place.

Thanks for your help guys !

It has been too long for me to give a 100% accurate answer on that one. Someone that is currently up to speed will come along and answer.

OK ..... correct me if I am wrong, but it appears the magic number for tightning the rocker shaft bolts for 1965 commando 273 with adj. rockers is 15 ft/lbs .

This is what a few other members confirmed on this site .

update

got the valve guide seal installed ,, this 273 hp is preety much all original internally so I know when doing the oil seals that All the seals are the smae size the long deep umbrella seals.. but moke overall kits you buy have either both the short and long seals in the kit.. I thought the intakes took the long seal and exh. took the short seals.

Or back in 1965 they installed the long boot seal on all the valves.

I put it back the way is was with all long boot seals.
from what I heard, the shorted seals kept the seal up higher off the seat for heat purposes ... but the ones I installed are about a 1/8" from the seat.. should be fine because the oem seals I took off went all the way down to the seat.
here is a pic pf the seals that I picked out of heads.
