Sad news from Rapchak the man helping me on the Demon.

I get people using navigation. Is there a future with all this tech that a phone wouldn't work if it is below the dash line of the vehicle and not on navigation. Or if the phone is being touched, the vehicle won't move......or SOMETHING to prevent distraction of the driver. This may not be how this happened, but besides falling asleep at the wheel or drunk, how does a guy cross the center line? Eyes are not on the road. I supposed anything can be disabled. Preventing phones from working inside of a moving vehicle unless its a call to emergency services? It just seems crazy that a thought like this has to be vocalized. I work at a level 1 trauma center (for 5 states) and I can guess the mechanism of motorcycle wreck 9 times out of 10. I used to think it was just because of the amount of people and lack of visibility within city limits combined with testosterone, but deer, gravel near the shoulder, and left turns in front of the rider are the usual culprits in the rural areas. I have wrecked a bike due to "too much fun" and don't ride any longer. Many patients I see when asked will absolutely ride again despite the amount of rods, pins and physical therapy they will endure. Don't get me started on wearing helmets, flip flops and riding electric scooters.

ride like they don't see you......cause they don't.

And most likely that jackass driver will have no charges of any kind filed against them. Up here in Maine the media always makes it appear that the biker was at fault. Idiot car driver crosses the center line and kills a biker, its the bikers fault because they didn't have a helmet on. Idiot car driver makes a turn into the path of a bike, it's the bikers fault for not being attentive and yielding to the moron car driver... it's ridiculous.

One of our Service Techs was in one of those "left hand turn" accidents last fall. Bike was completely totalled (sp?), and when I saw the pictures of his crash I was surprised he survived, to be quite honest. Thankfully he can walk again now, but not normally, and he says the Doc's have told him most likely he'll never be the same.

And he's only 31 years old.

I still have issues from my bike collision over 42 years later. My left leg took the worst of the impact and the ankle is at least 50% bigger, my knee has never been the same. I'm now 61 and I refuse to be afraid to enjoy my life because of the assholes of the world who can't drive or think the rest of us somehow owe them. I have no problem telling them where to go and how to get there.
