Satin or Gloss Black?

The OEM black steel rims from factory in 68, did they come in Satin or Gloss black?
What do you guys/gals think looks better with a dog dish setup Satin or Gloss rims?
 
gloss...........not sure what the factory did but gloss black with dog dish looks great. IMHO

Gloss. But in 1968 they are the same color as the body. Black cars of course got black rims.

It wasn't until around March of 1971 that all dog dish cars got gloss black rims.

Exceptions would be:
1969 1/2 440 6-pack Road Runner and Super Bee (gloss black w/o dog dish)
70 Challenger T/A's with optional trim rings (gloss black) ? Maybe optional on other 70-71 E-bodies ?
 
Depends on the color of the car. That black duster looks great with the gloss black wheels.

No matter what I'd have them powdercoated the color you want.
 
Black appliance paint works great on rims, it is epoxy and hard as heck and super with heat, just FYI
 
I am partial to gloss black....probably going body color on the Demon. Trim rings and no trim rings. Both police wheels. I am also fond of no caps and chrome lug nuts.

here's body color with and with out the doggies.. i'm sure if i had put chrome lug nuts on without the doggies it would have looked really tough. jamie and myself thought it just looked unfinished and prefer the proper doggies ..

Now if that car has black graphics with black wheels it would also look good but the way you have it set up the body color looks better IMO.
 
no, with doggies our car even with a black stripe and top still wouldn't look right with black wheels. now maybe if we went with a 17" aftermarket alumn wheel it would look good in black.. :)

Depends on the car, on a car with good paint gloss, on one with faded paint satin.....but always black

Probably going to do gloss black rims as most of you folks have mentioned, even though its not correct for a 68, my car has a black front spoiler & rear stripe, black rims should give visual balance, I need the contrast as my car is bright yellow and bright yellow rims might be overkill.

I'm a firm believer in making it correct for YOUR 68. It's your car, have it your way.

Completely agree on balancing the black and body color with the wheels. I felt that way and did something similar.

unless you go with an aftermarket wheel thats black i personally think it just looks wrong with a black stock style wheel.. yellow with a yellow wheel and doggies will look awesome.. the black tires break it up nicely.. but hey its your car not mine..
