Look at what the engine shop did to my beautiful, unmolested still-in-the-box W2 Econo heads by overpolishing. More thah half the valve guides look lke this. Complete disaster. Gonna see if they can be saved by getting them drilled out and sleeved and a proper valve job. you can guess how pissed I am.

Looks to me like they just hit the end of the casting of your guides with an end mill bit. Your intake guide was casted thin on the one side in this picture... appears to be left alone and as casted around the blend area from guide to runner area. I'm not sure there is anything wrong with it..... You have the actual guide from that point up towards the top of the head to control valve geometry. "However, all the casting porosity looks awful"
 
Be at peace. You may not like the looks of what you have there, but it is a long ways from a complete disaster.

What type of head service did you ask for from the engine shop?
 
if he would have finished the job you would not see it I have seen the guide cut down to were you only see the hole were the valve goes thru the head.dont get exsited it can be fixed.............Artie
 
I sent it for a port/polish/blend. Thanks for the input. I was worried that there was not enough metal left. I definitely want to put these back on the 340 and get it running again.
 
They should have just cut it out completely.lol

:Dnot as bad as it looks you have plenty of meat left to save them just let a mopar only machine shop do the work , i know it will prob cost shipping but it takes a mopar man to work on a mopar And you will be happy:D
 
They are definitely trashed, I'll swing by in the morning and take them out to the curb for ya! :D
 
So whats the problem? I dont think that is an issue. A new pressed in cast iron guide will make that as new but how did the valve get drilled offcenter like that? were they centered out of the box and them shaped off center? How much iron was removed with the polishing?
 
Yup, having cast iron sleeves pressed in just to make sure there is enough meat to keep the geometry right. Lesson learned, dont take your Mopar stuff to a Chevy shop.

I'd be more concerned with the lousy blend work done. It doesn't even look like the exhuast side was touched. Take it to a reputable cylinder head specialist. Mopar, Ford or GM doesn't matter if he knows what he's doing.
