Scamp vs. Valiant

Poor Valiants where considered lower than low in the pecking order, I never understood why
other than pedigree? Good looking cars IMO
 
In those days, the Valiant Duster Coupes outsold the sedans by a wide margin.
The Valiant Scamps and sedans were about neck and neck.
The Valiant Dusters had the most powerful available engines , which no doubt added to their sales success. The 340 and 360 V-8 s weren't available in the Valiant Scamp and Sedan (Though in theory, you could get the Hi-Po engines in the Police Packages.
My Valiant Scamp started out with a Slant Six...until I swapped it out for a 360 4 BBL.V-8.

That was then.
Today 4 door cars outsell coupes by a wide margin, which is why most 2 door coupes have been discontinued.
 
Bottom line is our A bodies offer us so much. The serious collector type has the 340 and original big block stuff. But most of us are happy with either driving the old slants, or dropping something bigger in the beast. Do it yourself, hotrod fun!!!

Another one from the archives brought back from the dead!
Here's another point that a lot of people miss, the '71 Scamp also had the standard dash from a Duster or Demon in it and not the swept dash of the Dart of '71 even though it was basically a Dart with a Duster/Valiant front clip.
Oh, and it also had the '70 Dart rear bumper and tail lights.
This goes to show you how interchangeable the parts really were on these A-Bodies..........
 
Try to look at it this way:

PLYMOUTH
VALIANT
4 door sedan
Duster
Scamp
Brougham Hardtop Coupe & Sedan

DODGE
DART
4 door sedan
Demon/Sport
Swinger
SE Hardtop Coupe and Sedan

All of these cars are either VALIANTS or DARTS...PERIOD .
They are NOT "Something Else".
If it's a Scamp, Duster, Valiant Sedan or Brougham , It's a PLYMOUTH VALIANT. ....REGARDLESS of whether the "Valiant" name is on the car or NOT.
The VIN numbers PROVE IT.

Plymouth and Dodge includes the A Bodies, , A Valiant is a Plymouth, the Duster is a Valiant, the Duster would up standing on its own as a"model". The first two letters of the vin tells us what family it belongs to.
I call my dog "A", short for A Body.
