How are you going to oil the LA heads on the magnum block?
Asking for a friend.
Up through the block. Some earlier Mag blocks have the oil passage opened already. Some need drilled.

Jabs, I am pretty sure that your .030 360 Mag block here has the holes for rocker oiling. I have had 3 here recently that did. I will look again at yours this weekend.

My 5.9 Mag block did not have the rocker oiling hole drilled. My block is date stamped 29108 "Hecho in Mexico".

Picture removed.

I think they're stating that the Magnum block would not have that hole to oil the head.
That is not a magnum block that is an 81 block that they are using in the picture and they are just stating the difference.

Even though-they are pointing at a coolant hole. I have also had Magnum blocks that were drilled for LA style oiling also. J.rob

I removed the picture above but can not remove quoted copies.

I am NOT ripping the torqued down heads off the block to take pictures.

Maybe someone has a stock photo of the oil feed holes.

what cam bearings did you use after you drilled your mag blocks?

Yes. In fact, my oldest son has LA edelbrocks on his Mag block. We use the same cam bearings that RAMM said he uses.
Nice !!! I know you'd have drilled your own blocks. I wonder if it's something I could do at home....

I would imagine it could be done, if you made some type of alignment jig that bolted to the deck, and would guide your drill bit
6"-8'' long bit? How deep is the passage? It feeds from the cam bearing doesn't it?

Yeah, from the deck to the cam tunnel, I'll measure next time I'm in the shop. I have been contemplating building a jig to do this.....hmmm
You know, i bet if a guy made and offered the jig and bit, it would be a seller. Hmmmm......

Just my opinion, I wouldn't bother modding a Mag block for LA heads. In fact, I'm not really a fan of Mag heads on a LA. Lots of good heads out there for each block style. Just sayin'

Either way, mag or LA, I'll be porting the cast heads. Mag heads in factory form flow good for the traditional small block. I do like the rocker shaft much better. I can port either.... I like the pinch point better on the LA 360.

The reason I will most likely put LA heads on a Magnum is due to circumstances. Several years ago I bought , for a great price, a 360 magnum that appears to be the 380hp 360 crate motor : single plane Mopar intake, "Mopar Magnum"finned valve covers, factory type car oil pan, etc . I intended to mic the cam to see if the lift matches the 380 hp cam but haven't yet done it. My original plan was to get the Enginequest heads but those have been discoed. Last year I bought Speedmaster LA heads and intake on their black friday sale. My hope is that the short block is in good enough shape that I can just throw rings and bearings at it. As far a good head availability, I don't really think there are very many magnum choices out there. I doubt there is anything out there for the 700 dollar price I paid for the SMs.

Big day coming up real soon time to brake in the new engine in my rod after reading this tread i just realized its time for me to build the ultimate street race engine starting whid a 318 truck block race ported 302 heads simular to the heads iv done in the rod but whid lager valves and higher ports on the intake we have good fuel in this countrey 98 oct so im shoting for 12.5 comp ratio now the big question what cam to chose it Will be a real screamer at least 7500 rpm solid roller ??? im aming to schortening the stroke under 300 any sugestions
