IIRC, that split duration cam is for a 340 stick application.

i'll bet everybody is gasping after my last post, but the key is "street only" stock 340,small gear and tires.

Crane blueprint 340 cam was the best "stock" cam ever offered imo.

.429/.444 & 115 is about the only correct spec ive seen given here. The 204/219 sounds about right...still checking.

They were hard on the valve train. Not recommended for street use. Very hard fast ramps for stock "class" racing?

That would be the .429/.444.. 320 duration on 102 or something, nah I meant the factory replace version, out of the old melling, clevite, Elgin etc...the crane blueprint was the best.

I think I had to call crane, 16 yrs ago or so, got the specs from their tech and wrote it on the box. That one was sitting on the shelf at drag masters in Carlsbad ...since 1989....then their old stock went to smokeys speed and machine....where it sat another 8 yrs or so....lol. So I moved on it for 40 bucks.

Why can't you use a Comp Cams p/n 20-309-4? Magnum Muscle, 268AH-10
Factory Replacement. Factory I.D. #2899206 for 340 c.i., 1968-71, factory 275 hp
340 c.i.; 1970, factory 290 hp 340 c.i.; 1972-73, factory 240 hp. 20-309-4 - Magnum Muscle These cams follow the tradition of COMP Cams® excellence and offer a step up from original equipment cam designs. Yep, the numbers are not "exact", but close enough?

Then there is Comp Cams p/n 20-212-2? "High Energy™, 268H Replacement for H.P. 340 & 360 4bbl Motors": 20-212-2 - High Energy™ Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshafts

a friend is using the Magnum Muscle and is not happy at all with his mileage and it does have a rough idle...if that matters?

If you want a factory grind, then look for any factory 4 bbl 340/360 and pull the cam out of that... The Lil Red Express 360 4 bbls had that same cam....

The Comp Cams 268H is not as good as the original 340 cam.
I'm not so sure about that. IIRC, I put a comp 268he cam in my friends 71 340 demon, and it felt more torquey. We took it to the dragstrip and I ran 14.2 something in it. This was like 25 or 30 years ago, so memory is a little fuzzy. But it was pretty stock, no slicks, no headers, bench seat, column auto shift, rusting out tail light panel, LOL.

I put one in my 71 4 speed 340 Duster. It was respectable, but I wished I had left the factory cam in. The 268 felt like had a little more torque, but gave up more at the top end. I ended up putting a TRW 284 duration solid cam from the 273 in the 340 and the stock 340 cam in the 273 and they both ran better. It's the combination in the end.

no argument here. Because it was a column shift automatic, I just left it in Drive. It shifted when the governor in the transmission said to. I wonder what happened to that car. He sold it about a year or two later. It was FK5, deep burnt orange metallic, with a maroon velvet bench seat.
