Seat Slider Question

I'm wanting to replace my bench seat and I've scored a nice set of Charger bucket seats for my 71 Duster, now i know the charger sliders wont work for my application, and I've seen the price of both used and repop A body specific ones.

My question is, If I don't care about it being "factory Correct" is there any reason i cant buy a set of universal seat sliders and use those with the factory Buckets? I've done it with mustang seats in the past but not sure about mopar.

Yes you can.BUT make sure that they are made of thick enough steel to support a 300 lbs person.
That way it can easily handle anyone in the car.I got some from Summit that are fair and did work but I wasn't real happy with them. I just made the seat stationary as I'm the only one driving.

That's curious-mine dropped right in. I had to move the studs to the forward-most holes so the seat would go back far enough but the tracks were a perfect fit.

Thats very interesting.
Everything i have read says they wont work.
Now im curious.
 
Not sure why they wouldn't work.

I had those same seats (from a 75/76 Charger) with the tracks in my 73 Duster.
 
Now I'm curious what sources say they won't work.

I had plenty of headroom in my 73 Duster with the one piece, fiber headliner, and the spacers removed.
 
The top of the seat back is 1970 only, and IIRC the plastic back and the latch mechanism is 70/71 only.

...but 72-77 seats and tracks will bolt in.

this is awesome news. Ill give em a try as is then cuz my charger sliders are in perfect working order.

I don't remember drilling any new holes.
Should be pretty easy to test.

There are multiple places to but the bolts/studs in the seat tracks.
That's used to modify how far back the tracks mount.

I will have to drill at least two holes for the inner sides cuz i had to install some janky *** floor pans cuz the AMD 1 piece has been out of stock backorder no return date for 2 years. But im not afraid to drill holes. when i did my 70 dart i drilled like 4 sets of holes cuz i was young and didnt take my time and kept messing it up Lol.
 
Seems like you need to add a floor doubler to the inside floor holes for buckets.
 
Forgot, do A bodies need the hockey puck spacers like the B bodies?
 
None actually "need" those spacers.

It depends on how much headroom you need.
 
I agree with YY1. Especially since you're doing something somewhat custom. Mock up the seats and see where they land then add what you need for spacers. I made my own spacers and only put them un the front because I wanted the seat pan leaning back a bit more. To answer your question -- the spacers are the same and available.
 
I would have thought that part of the issue would be that the A-Body sliders are offset on the outside to avoid the bench seat riser and the Charger sliders wouldn't have that offset.

My bet is the only way those Charger sliders will fit is if the bench seat rise is removed.

But watching as I am curious.

It's been a while (1993).

Easy to mock up.
 
It's been a year since I test fit my buckets in the RR. Was thinking the spacers went on one side of the seat, guess that I will find out when they go back in. My car was originally a bench.

If i can make 65 mustang buckets work in a 70 dart by god i can make charger seats work in a duster!!!
