In your photo with the ring, the hooks are the bar stock style and it appears hooked on the bottom edge of the frame channel. Just one end hooked on the frame with the other in the ring to wrap around the tire.
 
I hope these photos clarify little better as to what I have. And they are wrapped through the stake pockets.
