Shift cable toast?

Dart suddenly had a hard time shifting into 1st and 2nd. Played around with it, finally pulled cable out from under to check out. It had moved and was on exhaust manifold, even had high temp wrap on it. Plastic melted and wire exposed, is it now shot? I'm assuming it's time to order a new one. thanks

Yes, I would. That one is only going to get worse being exposed to moisture, rain if you are in it etc.

It's junk. Inner cable will just push out the side. I use the DEI heat sleeves. I get them at auto parts store. Just make sure the new cable is secured, so it won't lay on the headers.

Had car at tranny shop & they mistakenly moved cable onto manifold! Grrrrrrrrrr, new one should be here later this week.
