Shift cable

I'm putting a console in my 68 Dart. Right now it has a Hurst shifter (automatic) cable operated. Has anyone tried using cable insted of lenkage. it looks like it can be adapted. Maybe shift pull ratio to cable travel ?

I am also looking for the same information. It looks to me as if it will work, it also depends on the length of travel the shifter vs the transmission linkage. I am willing to spend $50.00 to find out.
