Does anyone know how to remove the shifter from the assy, I know it has the detent ball style its a Hurst shifter

You mean the handle? It's either a bayonet style or a bolt in style. Levers held with clips etc. The side cover somes off after you remove the rods.If you are talking the Chysler A-833 Transmission.

I assume this is what you're asking

Here is what the clips look like, you only have to release the one on the driver side. Passenger side of the handle does not have a place for the finger in the clip to "lock in".

Thanks a million, I finally was able to get the feeler gauge in there to release the handle, putting in new carpet
