Just guessing you are talking about the spring for the 9'' brakes. connects to a tab in the backing plate .Push with a phillips screw driver thru the center of the spring while holding the tab from the backside of the plate. Use a twist/pry to unhook the spring.

yup, that's it. thank god for this site and everyone's previous forays into this. you guys are life savers. thanks heeps. this one had me confused till I looked under it with a flash light, the one side didn't seem to bad, but getting under the rear pad was befuddling me.
