I am currently in the process of rebuilding/upgrading the 8.25 in my Dart.

Already planned:

LPW Diff Cover
Jeep Disc Brakes
Late Model Trak-loc
Aftermarket 29 spline axles
Upgrading from 2.45 to 3.55 gears

Should I bother welding the axle tubes to the diff housing?

The car is only about 350HP with a 518 AOD. Tires will be street type only 255-275 in width. Car will see little if any track time.

I have heard stories of twisting tubes, but not sure if it's limited to high HP/slick equipped cars that do a lot of racing, or if it's a problem in general with the axle.

I have a mig welder (Lincoln 3500HD Weld-Pak) so I CAN do it...just not sure if I SHOULD do it.....Can it create problems with heating the housing up like that?

Opinions?

It's unlikely you'll spin an axle tube with that horsepower. You're much more likely to break something else first.

It takes alot of cleaning, and an arc welder, using a high nickel rod. Cast iron- no mig.

Gotcha..guess I will pass on that idea then. Thanks everybody.

You need 2 stacked 450 hit plates on top of that 350hp, and then you might just kill the gears before twisting the housing off the tubes.

I'll tell you what though if you get it to hook in 1st, you'll love the 2nd stage in 2nd
