silenced or unsilenced?

silenced or unsilenced Could soneone tell me the diffence between the air cleaners. I have a dual snorkel with a plate that sticks up inside the end of the tube, is this a silencer? thanks Walt :salute:

An unsilenced air cleaner will have the filter element exsposed somewhere. A silenced unit will have the element encased with 1 or 2 snorkels.

The original Magnum and Super Commando air cleaners were unsilenced even though you could not see the exposed filter element. The element was exposed under the top hat all the way around. Also it could be argued that the snorkel air cleaner used on the 340 cars that had the vacuum door at the back on the base was an unsilenced or at least unsilenced when the door was open.
