Hi,

Sorry to ask a question none a-body related, but, I have a 99' Plymouth Voyager for school and recently started having electrical problems. I bought the van at the beggining of this year and noticed it had a silencer alarm installed, however, I never knew how it worked or if it did.

The other day the battery was down to 7 volts after sitting for one night. I checked around the cruddy wiring for the alarm system to find any obvious shorts. Also I disconnected the power wire for my driver side power lock because it has been free wheeling anyways. When I completely disconnect the alarm system and try to start the van the starter won't engage, however, everything else seems to work.

Does anyone have any wiring diagrams or suggestions? The model is a Silencer 6905P

Ok let's start with question numbaw wuan. What year/ make / model is the vehicle?

EDIT---73 Duster at the bottom?

2--When you disconnected this thing, did you pay attention to what it was hooked to in the way of the original wiring? If the car won't crank, it's likely that the alarm interrupted the yellow "start" wire going from the ignition switch, down the column connector, through the bulkhead, and to the start relay. If you have the dreaded seat belt interlock, this might be a factor

3--If the alarm broke the start wire, it seems likely that it also might have cut the ignition run line, and you'll have to chase this down as well.

To put this simply, it sounds as if the alarm is acting as a "hidden switch" in series with your start wire, and possibly the "ignition run" circuit."

What do you have in the way of a shop manual and or wiring diagrams?

I still have the duster haha just a bit of project going on. Hopefully will have more time when I have my ME degree in a month.

1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 3.3L V6 .
I honestly don't have any diagrams except ones that tell me what the relays are under the dash. I have tried to look up this model alarm and It seems to be impossible to find install instructions.

Funny what happens to "reliable" transportation.

Thanks though I'll be spending some time tracking things down and will check back later.

Hey,

So I tracked down the wires and found that the secuirty system was pierced into 5 wires and only 1 wire was cut in the wiring harness (The big yellow).
I took off the 5 splice connectors and reconnected the yellow wire seen in
picture (1) bellow. Afterwards I got a jump start and attempted to start it and found that the starter would now crank, however, the motor will not start.

This is what I'm seeing happen:

1- Put into ignition position 1 and the auto shutdown relay clicks
2- Ignition position 2 the fan comes on and the auto showdown relay stops clicking.
3- Attempt to crank and sometimes the starter will crank other times seems to be no power, while at the same time the fuel pump relay clicks.
4- After I let off and return to any igintion key position the EATX relay will click really fast until I take it out and put it back in.

I'm a bit lost so I'll be searching for wiring diagrams for this vehicle.

Found these on the library's site....hope they help....

I am no aftermarket alarm guru but, here's a suggestion you can try. I've ran into this kind of problem on my daughter's 97 Intrepid which has an aftermarket alarm. Her particular security system interrupted the starter circuit when armed. I found that the OEM ign. switch wire was tapped into the main harness that went into the alarm. I unplugged that harness from the unit, made a wire with 2 spade connectors and plugged them into the harness, bypassing the alarm and completing the ign. circuit. Light still flashes as though the alarm is armed, but unit is bypassed.

Thank you InkJunkie for the schematics.
I'll post an updated pic just to show all I did with the security system is connect the yellow wire and disconnect the splice connectors.

From what I can tell I don't think there was an issue with the security system (I think). I have been reading other people that have had this issue and it got me thinking about recent issues I was having with my ignition switch. The switch never has wanted to turn back to the accessory and sometimes gotten stuck in the on position (2), could this lead to similar issues I'm having?

So what it turned out being was that the fan relay was bad and shorting out. I couldn't detect that particular short before while pulling fuses because the security system had a constant draw.

The people who had this van before me seemed to find it easier to run a hot from one of the ignition wires rather than replacing the relay.

Will be replacing the possibly molten relay very soon.

Thanks for the help everybody!
