Anybody have any luck putting split exhaust on a slant 6? I converted the one barrel to a two barrel Super Six setup, and noticed a difference. I'm now thinking of adding split exhaust. Any thoughts? The say you can gain 15 hp., but that seems like a stretch.

Can just put the larger 2" or 2.25" single exhaust all the way to the back. That will help lots.

Factory exhaust pipe is super small.

I also changed over to a Super Six set up with Carter BBD, several years ago on my Challenger with Slant6. While I was at it I added a Mopar elect. ign. With orange box and an Accel hi-output coil. Then put on a K&N 14”x3 open element air filter. My last add was Hooker 3 into 1 headers, real dual 2 1/4” aluminized exhaust all the way to rear through 2 glass pack mufflers and an H pipe between the two pipes. Stock internals on engine to a 904 Auto then to an 8 3/4” 742 drop out with a 3.23 gear set. It seems to run quite well.

check out waggins dual option for the slant (I stole this pic from somewhere but I do have a set for my slant too) and I think MeMikes valiant had a /6 with his duals on em too.

It sounds like you are after a little pep so unless you want to add more weight an a relatively fake dual exhaust to your car, stick to a 6 into 1 setup and run a pipe the size of your collector.

The classic way to do this is Dutra Duals.

As I drove my Challenger on a daily basis (1972-2005), I’ve collected a total of 562k miles on the whole car at this point. I retired it officially in 2005 and then myself 10 years later. Along the way I added various improvements to the car and engine, primarily for efficiency and if I picked up “some” performance with this, well so be it. I thought the Dodge being a Challenger, deserved a real working dual exhaust with bright tips at back. Everything has worked together well including the headers and the exhaust system, and it does sound pretty good, barring it being a six.
Here’s a couple of pics of engine bay.

Yup not that hard if you know how to weld on cast iron, best upgrade I did over that stock exhaust PERIOD. Better mileage h.p and torque now that your pulling more in thru your two barrel now you need to move that air out faster and more efficiently. I got a set for sale here's my set up

All the pre-made options are pricey (Dutra Duals $750) and/or hard to source (Aussie). Some on ebay sell CNC'ed flat steel cut to bolt to the head. You add the tubes, which isn't easy, but some people are setup to bend pipe & weld. I recall the 1970's ads for motorcycle "4 into 1" exhausts, claiming 30% more power. When Honda and Kawasaki finally started making their bikes that way, the same places started selling "4 individual exhausts", claiming 30% more power. But people do say that headers waken up a slant on the top end, if combined with a breathing intake or turbo.

Anyone know what carb that is, and is it a direct blot on?
looks like memikes valiant so it is either a holley 390 or a 500 2bbl and I'm not too sure if it's a direct bolt on since I'm going 2 1bbl units on mine untl I gte the turbo setup built and paid for.

If duals were the hot ticket, more power, torque and efficiency, why didn't they just do it from the factory, they were already chasing economy and power levels via other ads putting these motors head to head with GM and Ford 6's? Crazy bolts ons advertising huge power gains...If you think it would cost Mopar too much, I gotta call BS on that. Whats another casting (they already had the Hyper-pak exhaust castings) and a piece of pipe as opposed to a $450 A/C option or a $227 FM radio? Just use a 2.25 head pipe and exhaust. Sometimes Mopar got it right out of the box, but I still dont understand the 1 7/8 head pipe. Maybe the backpressure observed increased torque down low?

They did, Brazil, Argentine, South Africa. In this country, when you bought a \6 powered car, you were cheap, and didn't want fancy stuff like dual exhaust. If you wanted that stuff, you would buy a V8.

They used 1 7/8" exhaust pipe because it was CHEAP.

390 Holley, offy four barrel intake and a set of @waggin exhaust and a fresh air breather from a 4.0 jeep.

mid eighties 305 chevy exhaust manifold for the outlet then use an early single rib slanty exhaust manifold , cut parts to fit then mig weld them together

I did a two ta one exhaust system, 2 1 1/2 inch to a 2 1/2 with a stock new muffler

How do you MIG weld cast iron, anything special or tricks? Preheat?
