We dropped a late model 225 (1983 if im reading the casting right) in my girlfriends 72 scamp and its been about 2 years since we got the motor and I took it all apart to check, clean, and repaint it and now I dont remember where the damn dipstick goes!!!
Every pic and car I have see the dipstick is mounted in the little hole by the driverside motor mount, but on her motor there is no hole, the little pathway for it in the oil pan is there but there is no hole in the block.

Im going nuckin futts trying to figure this out, I even jacked up the motor and took off the motor mount to see if it was under it.

In the last pic you can see the little boss just to the right of the motor mount and there is no hole at all for the dipstick.
(we went with differant headers by the way)

Every slant I have ever seen, had the dipstick hole in the block by the driver side motor mout bracket. Some truck oil pans (rear sump) had the dip stick mounted there. I never noticed, if those engines had the hole in the block or not.

As stated, looksl ike you have the truck motor there. 1 of 2 choices you have now. Take it out and get an engine with the dipstick hole already drilled or drill out the hole yourself. I would think by the looks of things option 2 is probably the way you'll wanna go. You will need to pull the pan back off because no matter what you do there are going to be metal shavings and filings that will find their way into the pan. Center punch the boss and start with a very small bit and work your way up to the correct size, be very mindful of the angle your drilling at, you want it to go into the pan just like factory, not pointing into the crank or crammed into the side of the oil pan. I am guessing you got this from a salvage yard, if it's been 2 years you aint going to have much of a legg to stand on as far as trying to be compensated for the screw up, but never hurts to try I guess. Good luck, and if you need a measurement of the hole size or the angle that it goes into the block at, let me know, I will gladly take measurements off of my 225 sitting on the engine stand in my garage.

Option #3 : change oil and filter - fill with recommended amount of oil - drive on - change oil and filter every 3000miles.

Damn it's always something...
Anything you can get for measurements would be great. The more the better and if you could post some pics of the hole and its exact location that would be great too. I have the dipstick that came with the car pan and it's all painted and ready to go.
Im not afraid of drilling it out I just want to make sure I get it right.

Ok so it's been a while since this post but Im getting ready to fix the problem and I thought of a 3rd option. What if I took an old truck pan with the dipstick tube in it, cut out the section with the tube and welded it into the car pan. I could have that done and painted in like 20 mins. Anyone see a problem with that idea?

That would probably work too, just make sure you get the level right or just remark the dipstick after you put the right amount of oil in the pan.
