Ok, dumb question but I need to know. The 273 I have is missing the timing tab, so I considered replacing the timing cover to a post '69 type since I'm running the newer type water pump anyway. Will the existing balancer work as far as the timing mark lining up with the newer cover, or is the key indexing on the balancer different requiring a matched set? If anyone would like to sell me a tab, that would be better!

the timing mark on the balancer will be 90 degrees off...

you will need 70 and newer balancer to line up the marks...

the keyway on the crank is the same

you can remark your existing balancer ...

the balancer is 7.25 inches in diameter...

figure out the circumference ...and move the mark 1/4 of the way...also...alot of new balancers come with marks every 90 degrees..

so mark yours balancer every 90 degrees...

If I used timing tape and set the 90 degree mark at the zero line on the balancer, that should work too, I think.
