Just wired the starter and battery with new cables. The post on the solenoid that the wires connect too is loose inside but tightnens up after you put the wires on with a nut to hold them on. Also The solenoid is loose where it bolts to the body so if this is where the solenoid gets its ground it might be part of the problem too.

When I turned the ignition the starter kept cranking even after shutting the key off, had to pull battery cable to shut off starter. Now when you connect the battery cable the starter just cranks. Any ideas?

The solenoid does not mount on the body (of the car) so you need to clarify what you are speaking of. You talking about the starter relay?

In either case if the stud is loose, it sounds like you have removed the bottom nut. There should be a nut to hold the stud in tight, then the wire connections go on top of the bottom nut, then a second nut goes on top of the wire terminals

Yep, relay, for some reason I have always called that part a solenoid but its the starter relay. Replaced it and problem was solved, thanks.
