Solid Lifter Cam

I would make sure the tune on that engine was optimum FIRST before I spent more money and labor. WHat kind of ignition curve is in the distributor? Where is the camshaft installed? Was a degree wheel involved?
I've got initial at 20 and have an FBO plate at 16, the cam was put in strait up, no degree wheel. I now have a degree wheel given to me and was going to use it for the possible new cam, if I keep the cam I have, I'll degree it.

I run a small solid from hughes. 237 242 at .050 lift is .537 .542 on a 107. In my 3500# dart with 915 heads, air gap, 750 holley, 3.55s and 2400 stall it ran 12.9 at 106. I was impressed. 340 9.5 comp. Wazoo

Hi Jeff. I have a couple ideas. Stock 1970 bottom end that's been re-ringed? That's one problem when it comes to Top End power 'ring seal/leak down... But you know what really stands out and i have not read all these Pages, just half of the first page....is the tune. Your timing should be at least 20° if not 24 °. Your total timing should be anywhere from 28 to 32 degrees. Also..did we degree the cam straight up or 2 or 4 adv?
As for the less than ideal convertor/gear..when you don't have the right converter or the right gears ..what you end up with is very specific or limited RPM 'power moments' as I call them.. where you can feel the power or potential ...but you can't use it in your regular driving routine 'off the line or low range driving...but regardless, you know it's there.
The 650 isn't a deal breaker either, 650- 700cfm is what I'd use for that motor combo.
The heads should be great.
It's mostly tune...then gear and convertor...then some more tune for that change. Every combo knows what it likes.

Thanks, MOPAROFFICIAL, I will give your timing advice a try. I'm looking into gears and converter, but will try some of the advice given first.

Hey Ya 'all, just wanted to let the folks know who have given me advice that I'm going to do what you said but I have to work around my bum back, so it might be a while to get back with results. Thanks Jeff

Take your time Jeff. I know that back deal personally and it can be a bear. I can’t stand throwing my back out picking up a piece of paper off the floor, but it happens.

SOLID LIFTER CAM PART 2
I took the advice from MOPAROFFICIAL and tweaked my timing, and it seems to run better, Hard to tell. I have some 3.91 gears ordered and am looking at an FTI SRC60828 convertor, any opinions on this convertor? Thanks for all you guys help.
