I have a 35 tooth speedometer gear and I`m not sure where to clock the speedometer gear housing in the transmission. There`s a spot for 32 and one for 39. Does it matter? Will it read different at different indexes? Thanks for any and all help.

There is a spot that will guarantee you will grind all the teeth off, a spot where it will work, and a spot where it may not make contact at all.

If I remember right when I did mine the gear case should have 26 to 31, 32 to 38 & 39 to 45 on it. Line up the 32 to 38 mark with the mark by the case opening. Here a moparts page with a good pic at the bottom. http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/auto/21.html

Thanks Oldschoolcuda, my gear housing does not show the second number on each of the indexes , only the first. I believed each position had a range but that picture showed it clearly. Thanks again for the link ,I will use the 32 position.
