I have a 96 dakota
Crammed in the 340 stroker motor with an a833.
I want to get my speedometer working.
Is there an adapter out there that will convert mechanical speedo (a833) to the electronic speedo nv3500? Signal?

Or do I have to rework the dash?

I may be wrong but I thought you could swap the electro speedo sender housing and all to an older trans and visa versa.

Bolt in the instrument cluster from a pre-'94 Dak, although it might have a different pigtail connection or pinout. Easily changed. They were cable driven from '87-'93, standard Mopar snap-on connection at the speedo head- you can just use a regular Mopar cable with a 7/8 nut trans end and the press on speedo end.

can't say for this combo.
but usually the bore for a magnetic sender faces the centre of the output shaft
the bore for a gear drive sender faces below or above the output shaft to allow gear mesh

you can sometime get, from cut over years, a gear drive gearbox with a gear drive sender that has a connector for the speedo cable and a 3 wire connector for an electronic connection

ford did this. on mid 90s mustang
here is an example
87-93 Mustang Speed Sensor / VSS/ speedometer cable connection

bit expensive give that a dorman one is less than half the price

no idea if GM did this with their modernized version of the Chrysler trans

if not this would potentially work to convert mechanical to electronic on a trans with only provision for mechancial drive and no Cut over year mixed style sender.

best bet is to rockauto search, or google images search, across the years your speedo or trans was in use and see if there is a combination sender that bolts right in.

i.e gear driven spinny thing with a magnetic pickup and a hole for the cable
works if there is space to fit it

avoid specialist suppliers and buy OEM style if you can. usually 50% saving

these are often 1 year or 2 year only things while they used up stock of mechanical drive transmissions while the new tail housing with altered speedo drive bore direction for full electronic was implemented

or the car had old speedo with cable drive and used the electronic connector for cruise control or stability control or ABS or other ECU signal

Nice one NOW that looks like the business... spinny thing with mechanical drive and wire output and low profile enough to fit in the small gap near the chassis cross member

I believe you can buy a speedo that works with GPS. No cable required.
