Speedometer cable question

I've got a melted speedo cable on my '67 dart and was wondering if the original threaded nut on the speedometer end will fit on the '68 and later cable? Seeing as the '67 and earlier cable is harder to find and when you do it's over $100.00, as apposed to $40.00 from mopar for the other.

I haven't tried to put the nut from a 67 sheathe on the later model sheathe. Might be possible. There is a hardware store item that will hold the later model sheathe end ( after a little mod' ) to the 67 speedometer input.
I can't recall if it was a EMT conduit union...memory failure.
It could have been a union for plastic tubing.
