Ok my speedo starts bouncing around at 55 mph. Is the speedo bad or just the cable?

Could be either but the head is the most likely, I'd start by lubing both of them and see if that helps. I like grease but others like graphite.....take your pick.

For most climates, the lithium stuff seems to work the best. I use the Moly wheel bearing grease here in San Diego since real cold weather is not an issue and it helps take up the clearence in my worn out speedo shafts bushings!
