spring-loaded rentention pins on drum brakes...

anyone got a trick to reinstalling them? easy to take off, super pain in the *** to put back in. if anyone has a trick or technique to put them back in, i'm all ears.
 
Small pair of Vice Grips is what I use. Grip the outer part in the Vice Grips and hold the pin from the back then push the cap that is in your Vice Grips and twist it to set it.
 
Heck, those things were never the problem for me. For me it was some of the larger return springs

Yup. There's a tool for that. You can't put it on your Iphone, tho.
 
I always just used a pair of pliers.
 
I have a drawer full of brake tools. If you're gonna own a old car, get the right tools to work o n it with.
 
I dont have a drawer full but only 4 tools that make brake work easy. 3 days at a brake school learning to use these tools properly helped a lot too.
