well hurry up lol
I may be able to put the rear end together tomorrow. But besides that, feel free to take the next plane down and we can put this all together.
well hurry up lol
So, reading up, the SRT4 engine and the PT Cruiser GT engines seem to be the same, correct? Also, what are the main differences between a NA and turbo 2.4?
pt/gt same as srt4. na 2.4 is an iron block some consider it more durable to handle the boost. and can be had for around $400-$600. where as an srt4 will start at $1000.00 and go up from there. kind of like gm's ls motor aluminum block to their lq4 truck block that is iron and cheap and people put the ls stuff on that
Nice video of my Valiant where I mention wanting to do an SRT-4 swap! The comments are hilarious! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ztP6xUskg8&list=PL933202463D47A1C2
Aluminum block it is... When I get to it, that is.
both na and turbo srt block are cast. the srt block has a oil return for the turbo. uses a more common crank pattern if you plan on going a full on standalone. both block are almost the same. you can use all the same internal parts in either engine. the cylinder heads are different. as the old na 2.4 use a head more common to the 2.0. later heads flow better with a new port designs. if it was me i would use a srt block do to being able to make it look cleaner plus i like the idea of using aem over a factory computer. the older block you can use a megasquirt but there are no more options as far turning unless you build a crank trigger system.
I found that out later. I've got a guy at work who used to race Neons 10-20 years ago and have discussed this swap with him. I think my '68 Dart may be a little on the big side for this swap. It would be better if I had an early-A.

hold on bucko...
the srt4 neons weighs 2900lbs. the 68 dart comes in at 2715 with a slant 6. so i don't think the car is too big. now check out these links.

With the power you can get out of the srt4 motors moving a 3200lbs car wont be a problem, wonder if with the front factory bracket for mounts if you can just get a blank piece of thick aluminum and make a mount with that. Had my srt4 with full bolt ons (cams, cam gear, +1mm int and exh valves, 1000cc inj, 3" intake tube), ported heads, 60-1 turbo, ACT stage 3 4 puck disc, with a full car of guys put it pasted 3200 pounds and it still hauled *** and wasnt even fully tuned yet was still playing with it to get it dialed in good. If you want to see what these motors are capable of check out Darrell Cox Racing cars and web site.
Yeah, unfortunately I had to back out of the SRT4 plan for my Dart and I stuck myself with a supercharged small block (though, I'm not too excited about the added weight). Shoving an SRT4 engine in there would have taken way too much fab work and time for me and I really wanted a car I can drive now. I'm still thinking about my next project though, I'd like to reuse almost all of my leftover Dart parts and make a pretty fun Early-A cruiser. I was thinking a wagon. Will it have an SRT4, a turbo slant, or my 273 (I'd like to try rebuilding), idk...
The main advantages will be a lighter engine and the ability to Hook Up! I had a srt-4 Stg. 3 with 375/425 to the front wheels. Best of a 11.87 @ 118.xx and a 1.8 60ft.

alot of fab work? where making a couple of motor mounts? maybe.. an oil pan? you get the trans adapter plate and put the 904 in there is no tunnel work. the rest is all resourcing parts from a stratus, a pt cruiser, a breeze, a neon or even a carravan. sounds like what everyone else is doing. sourcing parts and brackets from various years, models and mopar chassis'
I feel compelled to do this swap at some point now that you have decided against it lol. I understand your choice completely, SBMs are what these cars came with and you can make these cars super fast with that big displacement/weight ratio. The engine weight is an issue though and using a mildly tuned SRT-4 engine would be sweet, 300 some lbs. off the front lol.
One question not sure if it was brought up but what about the Caliber SRT-4 engines? Are they still based off the older 2.4 engine in the Neons? Also those cars definitely weighed more than the Neon-based ones being a rather large hatchback, they came with 300 HP from the factory and are pretty dang fast if also ugly.
