I'm trying to track down some info on a 1965 or '66 Valiant SS car that might be in the Minn, area and I think his name might be Mat. Thought that I saw something on this site awhile back. Any help is appreciated.

I love the car but I can not believe 131.76!

I believe we have the quickest and fastest SS/KA Mopar ever
racing in NHRA and we do have a bunch of class Wallys that would indicate
that statement.

It runs high 9's and low 10's when we are required depending
on the track and it runs 129 MPH (Basically 3 MPH slower than that claim).

No knock on Matt = He has an Amazing Race car and a great racer
but I am skeptic of that claim!

Trying to understand why you don't believe it. I know it's not a SS/KA class car but my car ran a 10.32 @ 130.82
 
You are my Buddy don't get me wrong = BUT Apples to Oranges comparison!

Your car is not a 273 engine with stock compression/Tiny carb/Production Iron
Heads with stock CCs

My STOCK Z06 runs 130MPH plus also but that is not an equal comparison either as
it IS 650HP. If you could get 400HP out of a Superstock (Original 235HP) 273 it would
be a Serious Player!!

Superstock cars are meticulous prepared and optimized race cars that run extremely
quick ETs for their MPH. They often have $10,000 transmissions and $5,000 Clutches or
Convertor and are generally built by gentleman with a lifetime of experience racing these VERY specialized
machines. If one of my Superstocks runs 131.76 MPH, you can count on it to run in the 9s.
It will not run 11's unless you started out in High Gear and have put the Front Runners on the
back by mistake.

We could take that car to any track of your choice AND I will BET you $100,000.00 (I have
that in the safe at the shop) that It WILL NOT run 131 MPH.

to the racetrack for over 70 Years and I know a little bit about Superstock Racing. I have been racing
Superstock since my 1964 Max Wedge Belevedere was a late model car.

I know what class Matt runs = I am fairly familiar with most
of the Mopar Superstocks that currently are active racing NHRA today.

I have raced Superstock for over 60 years.
 
it was at brainard at the div race as i remember, i didn't save it, just seen a vid taken at tristate he ran 10.5 @ 130.12 it's called wheels up slow motion, by jerry nesh
 
That makes more sense = 131.76 in the 11's did not
to me particularly for a Superstocker.

Thanks for clarifying that, now that makes perfect sense to me!

The stick Superstock cars often run a bit more MPH for their ET.
Even with the state of the arts clutch technology (Slider set up) many
if not most Stick Superstocker run bias ply slicks rather than the radial
ply slicks you see on most auto Superstockers. This is especially true if
you are not running Heads Up in a class runoff as the radials are not forgiving
of a marginal track surface.
Our SS/KA Superstock will run .12 to .14 slower with the bias tires although without
much or ant any MPH difference.
I suspect because of the greater growth rate of the bias particular in High Gear.

At least that is my guess.

i read my post, it was 10.05 @ 131.7 mph, he dialed a 10.11 broke out, it was at brainard earlier this year. index is 11.00. he can run with the 283 chevs

the end of the year and features everyone best only run
of the year in Stock and Superstock and where it occurred.

You can also call Pat at NHRA and get the averages of any of the
classes that you ae interested in knowing.

We are heading to Woodburn Or. next couple of weeks because after winning
class racing (last month) our Demon 340 E/SA averages are WAY to fast
and if we do not bring them down = we are going to get a 10 HP increase
in our rating meaning we would have to add 100 Lbs to what we need to weigh.

Matt's car is really running well!

My close friend Gregg Luneauk did extensive R and D
on the newer (302 maybe) heads and prepared a pair
for a SS/K 273 before he passed away.

I wonder if those heads were for Matt's car.

I will have a free ticket and crew pass for you if you decide
to come down. Also, we sleep in our Toterhome and the ATC
stacker has nice Air Conditioned Sleeping accommodations that
would be all yours to stay.

However, bring you work clothes as we will keep you pretty busy!
