:D Well, as the title says, I hope to finally get something started on my Barracuda and I think I've settled on a 360 stroker. I've found an already .030 over block at a machine shop that someone else started, then never paid for. They recommended the 408 stroker kit from ohiocrank.com , has anybody used that kit? Is it worth the extra $$$ for the 'balanced' assembly? I'm planning a street hot rod, not a race car, it'll probably never see over 6,000 RPM or a drag strip, so will be looking mostly for low end grunt, not top end HP. I've read lots of good stuff here and on some other groups about this combination, but feel like I need some more details.

I found a book: "How to Build Big-Inch Mopar Small Blocks: Up to 476 Cubic Inches by Jim Szilagyi, a Performance Specialist for Dodge Motorsports and Mopar Performance Parts" Is this a good choice? From the table of contents, it looks like it should be.

Suggestions are welcome, from the reading I've done, I'm leaning towards the Magnum heads and a relatively mild cam with an Edelbrock Performer type intake and a 750 or so CFM vacuum secondary 4BBL.

Thanks for your help and ideas.

Jay

I myself have not seen the book yet. Hope to soon. Your basic idea sound excellent. Magnum heads are terrific. I myself would do something like;
750 carb, Edel. Magnum intake, Magnum R/T heads.
From there, cam and headers are up in the air due to cost concerns. If I had it my way, it would be a roller cam and tti's with 3 inch sonic cannons.
(Evil giggles in the backround)

It's a good book, and your plan sounds pretty good. Get the assembly balanced. It's the "right" way to do it. You'll get more power, longer life, and smoother running in all rpm bands. Just be sure the piston to wall clearance is good with the kit pistons, vs. the pistons this other fellow was going to run.

I'm selling my 408 stroker short block. 4" forged steel Eagle crank and I beam rods, solid cam 246, 252 @ .050 (Hughes) matching springs and 1.5 Hughes roller rockers. 566 miles on this plus dyno time. 517 horse with the Eddy heads I used. Guarantee this is a great short block.

I would hope in 7 years he had built it by now or moved onto another choice of motivation for his vehicle.

Might want to try the actual classified area for your AD!
