Starting and Running Problem...

Thanks for the response! Sorry to sound so DUH about all of this but I want to learn and be able to do everything right and by myself...

So,I have located the port caps and get those today... with that I just remove all of the old hoses and screws and replace... is that correct?

I defiantly know the carb needs major attention... but I am unsure of where to start... do I just get a rebuild kit and start there? And where would the metal plug go when you said into the intake?

What is a crankcase breather... is the the long thing that comes off of the top of the breather or is it that hole that I have near the base of the engine below the carb?

Sorry for the delay!!! I received them and will be working on getting all of them back in order in a couple days. Thank you again sooooo much!!!


Oh and Fella's I have been smelling gas from my car.... I know the carb is no bueno (no good)... or needs messed with or fixed... but I need more advice... the smell is so strong now that I can smell it walking up to the car after a drive... Once again Thanks Bunches in Advance!!!
 
Well what's the latest... how is the motor running? Everything staying tightened down?
 
Everything is good and tight, slight ticking... but its from the one rocker going left to right... doesn't look like a problem though!!!

My only concern is now... I smell gas ALL the time, even when it is parked for a good 20min... There is even some slightly blue/white smoke when I first start her up. I know gas is leaking from the carb (could it be coming from somewhere else also?), but what is the best way to deal with this? Should I do a carb rebuild myself (if so, what is the best option?) or just purchase another sbc? Or could there be something else wrong now too?

Also, the fuel filter has went from a yellow to a almost blood red color... is this normal? Thanks for the help again!!!
 
sounds like rust getting in the filter,you must be getting some cruising done!!!time to in vest in some cleanable filters or pull the tank and have it cleaned,some dry gas might help but I have never used it to know so I just pull the tank's and clean them or replace them

Yeah I do drive quite a bit... its hard not to in this beautiful state!

What exactly is a cleanable filter and dry gas?

how hard is it to pull the tank and clean it? Is it something I could do in my driveway or something that should be done in a shop?
