Looks like a floor shift 73 E body to me, But I am no way a tec here.
Some one will jump in and help.

What are the things to look for when searching for a 70-71 A body steering column? Is there a part number somewhere on the column?

Not a 70 with the thumb release. 70 & 71 are different, 71 is first year for thumb release.

Probably a 73+ A body based on the mesh

Even though it is not "correct" I think I am going to use it in my 70 Duster. Putting it side by side with the original column it appears to be the exact same length and the splines match the steering box.

I was thinking '73+ A floor shift
Thats not a rag joint coupler at the end?

It should work fine in a 70 Duster, just make sure the wiring is correct.
