Steering column KEY RELEASE spring question

I am converting a 72 A body steering column to a floor shift and am unsure how the key release ring is supposed to spring back. I guess there is a spring that my column shift did not have?

your correct.the spring only comes with the floorshift column and they're very hard to find.i never see them come up for sale.

The part you need is an upper bowl. Tony D’agastiono reproduces these so you can make a real floor shift column from your standard column.
