I have my steering box out to FFI for a rebuild, so, while my column is out of the car, do you recommend any attention spent on it (rhetorical question!)? Thought I'd ask here first for kits or good vendors.

Well, now may be the time to check the canceling cam to make sure that it's not broken, and at least grease the shaft bearing!!

spin the wheel. if the bearings roars, replace them. As worn as the steering gear. Mathematical ratio suggests more worn. I'll agree that is the most practical way to store a column. To lay it down, no load on wheel, kind of like in the car is probably better.

Thanks - I'll lay it flat and remove the wheel. Pretty sure the cancelling cam is shot.

Just a heads up that those cheap cam systems like on ebay suck, and take some work to get them to even make the signals work right.
Much better off if you can get OEM parts for that.

I think Daniel Stern ( /6Dan ) has them, or knows where to get the good ones.
