I’m putting the front end of my Scamp back together. All new front suspension and steering. Any tips? Is there a good way to get the geometry close eye balling it? No weight on the suspension its on stands for now.

Maybe I didnt ask the right question. Im wondering how to get the steering to where its close. I realize I will have to have it alligned but just wondering how you guys have done this in the past?

Well......not really. The upper arm adjustments affects both castor and camber. You could set toe pretty easy enough to herd it down to the alignment shop.

You can Google front end alignment, and there's all sorts of caster / camber gauges if you want to learn it yourself.

Thanks some good reading that car craft one really makes it easy. Im guessing on these cars that since where the UCA bolts in its sloted thats your camber adjustment.

I usually adjust the front cam to the full out position and the rear cam to the center. You can set the toe with a tape measure. Doing this will be good enough to get it to the alignment shop. And I meant to add...do you have the ninth edition Mopar suspension manual? It gives some good info about basic and advanced setup. even gets into shimming the steering box and idler arm to acheive equal geometry. It's a must have if you're gonna make the most of the stock suspension.

Ok I got the idler arm on in the correct position I believe. It came with 2 solid washers and 2 foam washers. I put the foam washers once each side then a solid washer 1 on each side and then installed it in the kframe and ran the bolt through it all? Is that the correct way to do this? I noticed it does slide up and down on the bolt is this ok?

Does anyone have photos of there idler arm? Ive looked and looked on the net and cat find any. Or if you have a service manual that shows exactly how they go together.

No, the bolt should tighten it up to where it takes some effort to turn, and there should be NO up/ down play. Either the K mounting is bent, you are missing some parts, or it's the wrong idler.

Only picture I have is the 67 which shows a single--ended mounting scheme

Here's another thread on the subject

(Sure wish someone would put service manuals online)

I havent tightened it down yet. I guess I was thinking it should fit tighter then that to start. Ill tighten it down and see what I get thanks.

Thanks Ed I believe once I get it tight it will be just fine. just curious as there where washers went. But I will try it this way.

That picture is the same as my 67 service manual shows, and it's not correct in this case---his idler has a through hole and uses a bolt and nut. the K member "captures" both ends.

Yep that is correct. It came with 2 foam washers which I put on each end of the idler arm where the bolt goes through then stacked the washers on top of the foam washers then installed in in the k frame and put the bolt through.
