I've been looking at utune videos on repairing cracks in the steering wheel. Have any of you had any success doing this. I have 5 mostly small ones and one that is maybe an 1/8 inch all of the way around.
I am thinking about trying the jb weld putty, simple because I have some.

I used JB Weld on the wheel in my '64 Valiant about ten years ago, and I painted it with the same enamel I used on the interior metal trim. It just recently has been showing a small crack again, but ten years is probably longer than the original wheel survived without cracking.

Jb weld seemed to work for me. but in the hot Florida sun(took 3 months to do it though). It chipped in some of the thin spots since it didn't seem to bond as well even with adhesion promoter (bulldog). I ended up using PC-7 and redoing a really messed up wheel. it came out so much better that I'm doing 3 others that are not messed up as bad.

the start

some of the oops's I have to fix. yeah I bead blasted it first and then used bulldog adhesion promoter in this area

here it is fixed by hand (it sucked). I saw on this site someone did a JIG to make the grips, sure wish I had thought of that.

this wheel has been in the summer sun and in the car for about 2 years now with no cracks or checking.

I guess I am fortunate, mine looks really good compared to your pictures

You really do some nice work. Mine is not broken up like what you were showing. I have a few small cracks and the one 1/8inch cracfinished. I'll post some pics when I'mf

thanks. I didn't know what I was doing at first. So I started on the worst one first(that way if I screwed up it was not such a big loss :D)
the next one will be even better since it is all together and I'm painting it 95 neon metal-flake blue to match the wife's car and yeah I'm making a jig to hold the sander to do the finger grips. thanks to a members idea on here it'll make life easier sanding it evenly.

I was about tempted to just wrap mine in an old style steering wheel cover. After seeing how good they turn out, I think I will give it a shot. Thanks for the inspiration
