thank you HoppyI wish him luck with the treatment.
it's not an easy thing to do all the time but I have to sleep at night .Thank youYour a good brother.
Probably same stuff they used on grilles. If you can find someone that restores them...Talked to a guy last weekend. I want to repaint the dark argent on my Deluxe Chrome Wheel covers. He suggested using Cerakote paint. Its a paint they use on guns and gives a very hard finish.
I looked its expensive not sure if I want to hassle with that. Its not like these wheels will be abused. Think I'll just tape and spray.
God bless you mike. Need to look through or start a thread in the body forum about the slightly darker finish on the taillight centers.Talked to a guy last weekend. I'm thinking promoter on the chrome area needing painted, then paint three light coats dark argent, and a light coat of two with clear will do the trick.Need to look through or start a thread in the body forum about the slightly darker finish on the taillight centers.
My guess is that's not paint?
Oh I hear ya on that. Not saying you have to get someone else to do them, but they would know what it takes to get it right.I did the paint on my 55 Chevy valve covers and they have held up very well.
Think I'll get the paint and practice on a extra wheel cover I have.
Mothing makes you feel good than when you can do it yourself.
My only experience even close was when a local metal wizard straighted the lower trim strip on the trunk. He sent me to Martin's - that's a story of its own! - to see if they would anodize it. But the guy said it was probably too thin to risk. So I'm guessing the original method may have involved anodizing???I'm thinking promoter on the chrome area needing painted, then paint three light coats dark argent, and a light coat of two with clear will do the trick.
I did my grill last winter when I had the dash out. I used argent paint from Herb's Parts.Oh I hear ya on that. Not saying you have to get someone else to do them, but they would know what it takes to get it right.
And they would know where to get correct paint. Some of those finishes were likely done with special sprayer or at least the tip. I may look into it myself for my grille. Almost a fine 'glittery' finish I believe, when its fresh. But its got a light texture, so not just a regular metallic.
The guy who fixed the dent on my car's roof and some other touch up uses a little air gun - like for painting models -Oh I hear ya on that. Not saying you have to get someone else to do them, but they would know what it takes to get it right.
