Trip to buddies shop to use tire machine to dismount tires off the original 14in SBP wheels - I bet his buddy does most of the "work". Trip to Dump - 1/2hr., Trip to Home Dodo - for what, a light bulb?, Haircut - you know, sit there and chew the fat with the old school barber.... BEER - which will start late today - maybe as late 1... poor Mitch...
I heard That !!! Just finished gettin a Jerky Cook goin..Leavin now for my Looong Haaard Day !!

Good morning, back from Sarasota. Mom's 80's birthday at the retirement community pool went great. A small group of our extended family, all ages. She was really happy.

Did I miss anything major while I was gone?

Hey David!

I've been away for the weekend, did you get your Fury back from the look-over?

Yes I did, Anders! I drove it to work Friday afternoon. Mr. Davis got it idling smoothly but it still surges and hesitates. At least it doesn't stall. For some reason, he didn't test drive it himself, one of his mechanics did. I'll bring it back and let him drive it. Other than that, he said it was fine. And he had some R-12 on the shelf so he charged up the a/c for me. Now that I'm back home I can spend time with it.

Surging and hesitating sounds like the carburetor... Try spraying some carb or brake parts cleaner on it and soak it... Also, check to make sure the fuel filter is not clogged...

Is it surging on light acceleration? steady speed? Both?

Hi Karl yes, light acceleration and steady speeds. It clears up on the interstate. The fuel filter is the transparent kind, it looks ok.

Have you replaced the fuel filter since you've got it? I would, cheap and easy to do... I like the clear plastic ones so I can see if there is fuel in there or not...

(Don't ask why...) :BangHead:

Sometimes they look good from outside, but still may be clogged... A quick bench test is to take the filter off and blow through it to see how hard it is and how much resistance there is to flow... And if you do, we want pictures... LOL! :D :poke:

Thanks, that is not a bad idea (change fuel filter.) I'm off Thursday but I'm going to ticker around with it a little before then. I'm at the stage right now where it's like, whoa, what am I gonna do with this thing and where do I begin?

I would say, give the carb a good cleaning with parts cleaner. Then see how it runs...

If it only happens on low vacuum (below 10" Hg or less), then it may be in the power enrichment system (power valve/metering rods)..

Put a vacuum gauge on it and see what vacuum it hesitates at and what vacuum it goes away or if it stays at all vacuum levels...

Hook the vacuum gauge to intake vacuum off the intake or at the base of the carb...

If it happens at high and low vacuum, then you may have some build up in the jets and main system... Then the carb needs to be cleaned out/rebuilt.. [this may be your case as it fits what your describing].. .

Do some testing before jumping to conclusions...

No problem, we can start with the basics and go from there... Keep it simple...

While you're at it, did your mechanic replace the points, cap & rotor, spark plugs, and maybe plug wires???

Start with the basic tune up...

Have they set the timing?? I would say run that at 34° - 35° total timing at 2000-2500 RPM..

After it's tuned in, then go through the belts and hoses and replace as needed...

Keep the old ones in the trunk in case of emergency... If you blow a hose or belt on the road, you can replace it with the old belt/hose and a simple emergency tool kit and get back motoring... [it helps to have a back-up plan...]

I'll look into all this. I can't do much at my place, they frown upon really working on cars in the parking lot. Actually there's a rule against it. I get it because it's a place for rich folks' vacation homes. When it gets cooler I can find a shade tree someplace where no one will bother me.

I heard on the news this morning that, as expected, companies are backing away from him and pulling endorsement deals - he's lost over 5 Million already... a true contender for the 2016 Darwin Award!

He's in his early 30's, he should know better...

His sponsors are all dropping him...

He could have made more $$$ from winning gold if he didn't act like an ***.... :realcrazy:

You can see how he acts that he is afraid to take responsibility and consequences... But they are happening anyway, whether he likes it or not... Too little, too late... :bs_flag:
