Well I stuck a new carb on my dart, it was running strange but figure all was because i just need to have a shop fine tune it. The last week or so I noticed that the card is covered in oil??? Why is there oil all over the carb?? Ideas??

How old is the breather and is there a gasket for the base of the aircleaner to the carb?

breather isn't to old, still white, took the aftermarket oil breather off and put a new aftermarket on, the gasket is there, checked this morning

clean it off with carb cleaner and watch every day to see if you can trace it to the source

I'm going with positive crankcase vent, where is the oil showing up? is your pcv plumbed into the carb base or the air cleaner base? What intake are you running? Do you have oil in the air cleaner?

just seems like the carb is oily all over, like a thin coat of clear oil, yep the pcv is plumbed into the bottom of the carb, not sure what intake it is but the carb is a 2bbl. not sure if its in the air cleaner will have to check that tomorrow in the light.

factory lube coming out now that the carb is heating up and working?

That's what I was just thinking. Sometimes they put a coat of some rust inhibitor that may be reacting to the heat. Causing it to grab all the dirt floating around.

seems feasible, first time though that i seen it on a rebuilt carb. I did notice it when i first put the carb on coming out around the gaskets, thought it was gas but no smell, just oily. i suppose they just dipped the carb in some kind of solution. strange though.

Depends how it was rebuilt? Maybe it's full of carb cleaner or some kinda solvent that wasn't thoroughly blown out? Does it run any better with that stuff out of it? Is it continuing to come out?

Fuel seepage will cook to a varnish like residue and give up most of the vapors (smell). It can pond in the low spots on intake over time and look just like oil but then it once was crude oil.

did you have this problem before the new carb? and do you have a baffle in the valve covers?

didn't have the problem with the old carb, not sure if there is a baffle in the valve covers, they are the factory though. I was told today after an oil change that the tranny is covered in oil, not sure where is blowing out of, the valve covers are seeping so not sure if its from that or not. there is no oil puddling on the ground so its not a serious oil problem. I did clean the carb yesterday and does seem to start better but its still running poor. the local shop wants to charge me 95$ to diagnose it and tune the carb. not sure if they make another problem though
