The shift mech. out of car, cables hanging there under dash, pushed in is park, pull out is neutral; the problem, cable not reacting, stuck in Park.

Any thoughts, John

what year/car is it? onthe 62 valiant I had you slid the park lever down 7 the pushbutton selector went to neutral.

if you have the mechanism out & the cables are loose can you post up a some pictures? the mechanism might need some lube or is missing pieces. Lawrence

should not pull out -- should have to activate the park lever somehow to operate the shifter into neutral-- mechanisms are usually solid units. need pictures of exactly what you have apart & how it was done. Lawrence

Ok so with the car in neutral from the selector cable can you then push in the park brake selector to get the cog out park? I have a lot of experience with push buttons. You could also got to the park brake housing, there is a small Allen head plug on the bottom, once the fluid has drained you can slide a small screw driver up there and slide the arm to the drivers side and get it out of park.

But what happened? If you need more help send me your number and I will walk you through it.

Many thanks Rick. Will head up to the shop in a day or 2 and follow your advice. Again, THANKS. My number is 617-899-0202, give me a couple days and will see how it goes John

Yes. You can adjust the trans cables once you drop the pan on the transmissions. It is the same through 65.
