Stupid air cleaner question.

the one I have looks just like the one you pictured. I have been looking at it to modify it for a holley 4bbl.
just don't care for the 14" air cleaner on my slant.

The slant air cleaner is like the HP273 cleaner only painted black. It doesn't have a lid but the top is more of a cover.

hmmm, I thought the slant one was slightly smaller in diameter. I need to figure out the base, either needs a little drop or a shorter air filter.

A slightly taller filter would expose more area at the bottom.

Yeah as long as the filter is tight to base and to top I would think the height shouldn't make a difference? Within reason of course.

And it might be. The 6 and 8 cylinder air cleaners are the same style.

Some pics of mine. Same as yours with about 1/8 inch of opening all the way around.

That's crazy but if you add up all the area it's as much or more than what the carb flows. The engineers knew what they were doing.

I would say 3/8" gap on the Charger 273 air cleaner.

maybe designed that way to pull warm air up from the exhaust manifold to prevent icing? That is a pretty small hole/intake the air is moving through..
