The Duster started surging in the last couple of days. Thinking it is the carb. Just not running right. I hope you understand what I mean by surging. Don't think it is the fuel pump ( Holley blue). Could be bad gas. I'm thinking maybe the carb ( Mighty Demon 850). Trash in the carb? Where should I start? Any help would be very appriciated.
 
90% of the time, to me surging usually means a lean condition? I assume it's at a steady/cruise rpm? The fact that you changed nothing and it just appeared, seams like it could very well be a bad tank of fuel.....Moisture? Trash in the carb is a possibility, but if you're running a fairly new filter, it's not likely. There's always the chance it's ignition related, but at this point i'm not sure I'd look there just yet. Hopefully some others may have a idea what's going on?
 
I'll 2nd the "Surging is usually a lean condition" statement.
Now what's causing the lean condition is where the fun starts.
Could be crap in the fuel system ( easy enough to clean / check ).
Could also be a vacuum leak...( pain in the arse because it could be anywhere from the a/c controls to the brake booster to the vac advance canister diaphragm )

Is is surging on the hwy or idle?
Is this a daily driver or has the car been sitting for a week or 2 at a time ( or longer ) ?
 
Read your plugs & report back. But just off the brief description, I 3rd the lean condition.
 
Did you encounter a brief backfire before this started? If so you could have blown a vacuum cap or a hose off and created a lean condition.
 
Lean on the lean, leaner than the leanest lean that ever leaned. Lean. Hand over the airhorn at idle, rev = lean, bog = rich.
 
This is the set up. 1971 440hp balanced, bluprinted, and gas ported. Elgin cam with hp specs. Torker II intake with a Mighty Demon 850. Mallory ignition, and a Unilight distributor. Notice no fuel filter. I'm ordering one today. I know, I'm a dumb@#$ for running without one. That may be the problem.:banghead:

Rebuilt carb, put filter on, new fuel pump, new fuel pressure guage. Turned out to be a plug wire. I love it!

Well, at least you got a fuel filter out of it.....glad it is fixed! The wire must have been coming and going....
