so i'm switching from holley to a rebuilt 9801s, seems to run pretty good.360 with worked 302s, intake at the moment is rpm airgap with edelbrock adapter ,runs good, i have the option of 71 oem or holley street dominator.all 3 intakes are untouched porting wise, the 302s have been opened up.any thoughts on best route to go

I’d agree with 318willrun but you made no mention of your engine set up or the chassis set up or your drivetrain set up.

Therefore I suggest a change in cams to a .750 solid roller and a super Victor with the TQ.

i think I have a TQ factory manifiold laying around somewhere...spread bore type...although I dont like the weight, and I'd go with aluminum...

like a fool ive sold my ld340.mild bullet racing cam,headers,3000 stall,355s,72 demon, my tq has electric choke. not going to purchase a new wieand, i already have the air gap and street dominator, picking up 71 factory intake in a week

May not be applicable here. Just watched an Engine Masters show where they compared the Performer, Performer RPM, Weiand, and a Chinese make, don't remember the name. The engine was a 351 Cleveland with aluminum heads and roller cam. In every dyno pull, the Performer RPM outperformed the others overall in torque and horsepower.

Love the thermoquads, but to get them just right, you need a strip kit to tune the jets & rods. Biggest issue I ever had with TQ's is the phenolic bases would often leak. Saw someone on EBay selling a TQ strip kit for $500. As much as I love TQ's, that is absolutely ridiculous!!!

stuff gets pricey when they don’t make them anymore and $500 is brain dead stupid.
I could see $200 though.

Yeah. Back in the day, I paid $50 for the strip kit and thought that was high! Saw it at $100 back in the late 80's and thought that was ridiculous. Again, I love TQ's. but for those prices, sure makes Holley's look attractive with their available parts at reasonable prices!!!

But has to run an adapter plate or be ground on for a TQ.
yes, did that to my ld340 in the past, wasnt much meat left, so i added moroso a/b epoxy. sold that intake when i sold wifes #s matching 72 340 duster for a song, a real short song!so if i was to go airgap, i still have to consider the adapter and the inability to port match to 302 heads, as i could do with the holley sd

the fellow that sold me the carb rebuilt it and set up rods and jets to match my combo, in the ballpark anyway

If a streeter;
If you have a manual trans, I highly recommend to try and keep the AirGap. It will allow your engine to idle down further before running into slow-driving issues.
If your cam is between 240 and [email protected], a dualplane like the AG will definitely pull up the bottom end. That AG helped make a torque-monster out of my 10.7 Scr/367 with a 223* cam, (alloy heads).
My engine is now running a 230/110 cam, and with the AG, this engine will idle down to 550 rpm=4mph, in low gear (manual trans), pulling itself on a flat, level, hard surface. So I vote AirGap.

Yeah cause we all know he's gonna lope along at 4MPH in 1st gear.

Oh, pardon me for trying to help. In which case, Why didn't you comment on this post?

as previous, stall3000

300-1 701r-7

Use it. Performance will depend on your tuning skills. When I swapped from an Eddie 600 to a TQ on a performer manifold the car ran better everywhere and would have run quicker at the track without a doubt. Ideally if you can find an M1 single plane I would use that over the rest.

Have Dremal tool, will travel.....

Post #4 is so much better a choice. Have you ever seen an LD340 carved out for a TQ? There sue ain't much meat left.

Bend AFB rods 3/4 of an inch shorter and clip the rest off.
New jets can be ordered through the carb shop, IIRC.
Purchase every smashed up worn out broken TQ for there rod and jets to make your own kit.

That of which I wrote is a RRR classic reply. It has been posted many times. I laugh every time I read it.
