I thought I was taking a long time to build my motors. Well actually I guess I am but I'm at least picking away at it a piece at a time. Sometimes more and sometimes less that is.
I suppose I'm used to it. I've a 500ci big block here that we started for a customer maybe 10 years ago, 4-bolt mains and all. I work on their money, not mine, and won't loan him the money to finish that engine and his 440 so they sit in pieces in storage. Even have another's all aluminum 540 for years that never was finished. It's just the way life goes sometimes.

It’s funny how people think you want to spend your money on their stuff. It’s like they think it’s your privilege to work on their junk.

Question becomes, how long can they sit taking up storage before you finally say the heck with it and sell the things
 
The owner should get back on track so we can see the results.
LOL He has a lot on his plate don't we know. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas w/2" of snow this morning.
 
With the EQ360 we are in constant contact. The others haven't answered my emails in years.
 
Some have been put on notice. Get them out of the shop or they go for scrap.
Well before you “scrap them” , hit me up. Depending on price and what not, I’d be interested in just about any big block you wanna “scrap”
 
We used to have a bunch of customers at the trans shop....bring their car in for a full rebuild after driving it til it won't move any more. Once the trans was out, and the $4K price tag was given, they'd ensure us they wanted to fix it 'just not right yet'. So the car car would sit by the shop for months and months, transmission-less, until we forced them to drag it off. But the worst ones were the people who had you complete the repair then due to some extremely unfortunate and unforeseeable crisis couldn't cough up the money. But they still needed the car to 'get to work' and while they had little money they had an abundance of assurances of prompt payment.....

And it's always an expensive fix and they never let you know until you tell them it's done. Been through that a time or fifty.

YOU SHOULD PUT IT ON THE INVOICE after 6 months there is a 40.00 /month storage fee after 2 years it sold or scrapped . it's not fair to you to have to store **** cause they are in no hurry or don't have the $$ . i pay a shop to store one of my engines that i'm not ready to build just yet it's only fair

I’ve asked Jim a few times to sell the 500 ur he is a very unfortunate circumstances. Kim
 
Like the Cicadas, this project may be rising from the earth. We shall see soon enough. Where the heck did I shelve all the parts? Treasure hunt time!

Isn’t cubic feet per minute actually another way of saying airspeed?
300 cfm of air is two totally different things on a 1X2 inch port vs a 3X6 inch port. Or even better yet, 3X6 foot door.

In most cases, wouldn’t the prudent thing to do would be to buy & pay to install a warrantied rebuilt transmission? Versus paying to rebuild one?
 
I think payment is more of an issue than anything with people. Most people I know living from check to check do not have an emergency fund. This is normally coupled with a loaded up with debt credit card.

As of just recently a well know local engine builder has stopped building engines. The point was made of payment problems. They (the co-owners) decided to just simply machine the parts and skip all the drama of engine building behind. There now turning a bigger profit while making a lot of home builders very happy.

They require a small amount of your time for what exactly is being done, what needs to be done and 50% down payment. You’ll get a phone call if anything comes up or when it is finished.

On the transmission, this maybe a matter of keeping the numbers matching trans in the car.

Many of the shops I've worked with have a policy where unpaid invoices after XX days are considered abandoned and the shop may sell the parts/car to liquidate. Any monies gained over the outstanding invoice amount may be kept to pay for storage and/or shop damages. No one wants to do this to a customer, but shop space is not free. Even storage units have an abandonment policy where they can sell the unit contents to pay for outstanding bills/damages.
