The RHS's are going on bracket car that has the shorblock waiting. The EQ's are simply an experiment to see what they flow/what we can make them flow. They MIGHT go on to my 408" street/strip deal that's next after the Duster moder is done and running. I LOVE this (low budget)small block stuff!!

First observations -

1) The RHS's are HEAVY
2) The port opening dimensions on each are very close in size
3) The Isky iron rockers probably won't work with the beehive retainers. DOH...

4) The RHS chamber/valve layout looks very effiecent (sp?)
5)Overall they both look like very nice pieces for their intended use.

Nothing important to report yet. Will have "as bought" flow data on the RHS's Saturday some time. Gotta get valves to start playing with the EQ's.

Flow results from today on the RHS 2.02 head...

RHS LA-X

*First column is OOTB,
*2nd is with about .025 removed from the intake side of the chamber wall.
*3rd column is a real quick guide area trim.

We were then wondering how other benches are reporting 270-ish and then it dawned on us: Flow them WITHOUT a spark plug...duh...

Peak with the 10 minutes worth of chamber touch up and guide smoothing, the intake went 273.8 @ .600, with turbulance right after .600, although they still went 269.4 @ .650...

Pretty good bang for the buck, I'd say. The as supplied valve job was VERY conservative, leaving quite a bit of margin at the valve edge. We're going to spend about 8 more hours this week and rub on the guide areas some more and correct the VJ and we'll find more flow, I'm sure.

Looks like the short side of the exhaust can be laid back a touch, so we'll try that when the intakes are all done.

As they are, they SHOULD support a 525-550-ish HP motor. Again, pretty good head for the coin!

We won't get to the EQ's for another week, as we need to get valves and work schedules won't allow any more time until then.

If you go by Desktop Dyno and 'published' flow numbers you can find on the old internets, the EQ's are slightly better. Seems no matter what combo I compare them on (using DD) the EQ's always come out a few hp better.

However both seem to be perfect street machine head choices. IF the EQ's were LA based they would be my choice.

Looking forward to what you come up with, considering both for my own project.

to were to get the EQ s.Ive been looking, cant find them again.

Not where I got them, but the easiest is most likely Hughes Engines...hughesengines.com They sell them as "Iron Rams", and they are very close in pricing to the RHS's.

EQ might sell bare copies direct. Google something like EQ Magnum heads...

they are ebay all the time, just search eq cylinder heads
I've never used them, but have thought about it.
They do have then with the L.A intake bolt pattern, but looks like you have to use magnum rockers

Correct, mine are drilled for an LA intake. You do have to use all other Magnum stuff, but the advantages are: 1) It's all available in the wrecking yards for cheap AND the rockers are 1.6 vs 1.5. Here's another interesting tid bit: The V10 rocker bolts up (same geometry) but the ratio is 1.7...we'll be using those if we run these on my 408 street/stripper. Word of caution, just like the OEM heads, the guides will only allow about a .530 gross lift at the valve, so any bigger requires trimming. That is easy to do, even for the home builder. Also, the Mag rockers oil through the pushrods, so you need the appropriate pieces there, including the correct lifters, which 99% of aftermarkets are for a hydraulic stick.

AMC hydraulic lifters work with the mag I believe.

if you are still looking for the eq heads with la intake just call rusty at enginequest ext 232 he can help you out 1-800-426-8771
