And since it’s doing this at idle, or just off idle, the kickdown really doesn’t boost line pressure at Idol from my understanding

I would dump another quart in it before l went pulling the pan. And your extension might be leaking. Full is just above the dipstick tube hole in the case; about half an inch.

We just drained a quart out of it because the dipstick was showing overfilled. Lol

But you bring up a good point about the filter extension sucking air.

I need to figure out a way to reference the dipstick without removing the tube I just finally got to seal. Lol

That's what I was going to suggest. You've drained some out. No change. Try putting more in. You "may have" an incorrect dipstick. Just like timing the engine, if everything is correct with the transmission, it will tell you what it needs. I had a friend who ran a local transmission shop for over 60 years. He died two years ago at 91 and was still doing bench jobs two weeks before he died. Torqueflites were his specialty. He always told me the dipstick was a guide. He added fluid until the transmission went into gear instantly and there was no flare up upon initial movement. "Wherever" it read on the dipstick from there he said was full. I never argued with him because it worked for me. Every. Single. Time. I sure do miss Tom.

Grandpa and Jason are on the case. Lol.

They verified the full mark as accurate on the stick.

The trans was reading Full at this point. They added a pint and it got a little better. So they are going to add another pint and see if it fixes the problem.

In hindsite, this all started when I drained a couple quarts out to reseal the dipstick.

Of course though, we refilled it to the full mark when done.

Just back tracking our steps to figure out what went wrong.

If this doesn’t work it’s pressure test time.

Thanks. Eric

Well……I’m an idiot. Lol.

Let’s start there shall we.

I hang my head in shame at my rookie mistake.

Our problem was rear axle slop the whole time.

My mistake fell in the fact that I assumed putting the transmission in gear and letting off the brake and rolling forward would take up the slop in the gears.

I was wrong.

I’m currently PM ing back and forth with Rustyratrod about possible solutions.

I know better than this. Lol.

So yeah……I’ve got that going for me. Lol

Thank you everyone for all the help. It is greatly appreciated. And I’m sorry for wasting everyone’s time.

Thanks. Eric

For everyone's information, the kickdown adjustment has nothing to do whatsoever in the transmission engaging into drive. It regulates pressure down at low speeds so it doesn't slam gears when shifting then at higher throttle inputs gives the clutch packs and band more pressure so they don't slip
