Let's get one thing out in the open: I have a life goal of building a 440 and putting it in something. I'm talking a mean 440, maybe so mean that it's a stroker and not even a 440 anymore. Could end up as anything, as long as it's at least close to street-able I want to start with a junkyard motor-home 440 block and go completely ground up from there. I'll decide what to put it in later.

Help me build (or really just decide how to build) this thing from the ground up! I want this to basically be a talk-about-anything-you-could-do-building-a-440 thread. Anything is game, I'm not thinking about budget yet, just want to know which routes I can go. Who doesn't love talking about 440's??

Over twenty years ago I started with the same idea. I was going to build something absolutely mind-blowing. Then I started thinking (some people say it's my weakness, others may view it as a strength....). I like to drive my cars, and not just down the street. I like to get in, fire it up, and drive a couple hundred miles.

For this reason I chose to build a car with a very mild 440 so that I would have tons of low end grunt and the ability to drive the car. Most extremely high horsepower cars are a pain to drive on the street, much less long distance.

I am in the process of repeating that build, but this time with a 727 instead of the four speed, and this time in a Barracuda instead of a Dart. I still plan on putting the miles on the car whenever possible.

You can do anything you want to. If you want a recipe, you have to know what you want for a result.

That's what I'm talking about! I don't know what I want to do at all with the engine yet but I want to know what's been done and what people like or don't like about what they've done.

Big block in an A body for me would be low deck based , especially if building a stroker .

I see you're from Chicagoland area, I've been down around where your at on late weekend nights and let me say there is an extremely warped definition of streetable down there lol which makes it fun. I am also for the 383-400 block stroked in an A body just because of the clearence. I'd go somewhat mild with a pile of nitrous for fun :-D
