Thinking about selling..need advice

FABO, I need some advice although I think I already made up my mind. I've owned my 69 Dart for 16 years, it is my 1st car. Theres nothing wrong with it, it runs and drives good. It has a decent 360/727 with disc brakes and at least I think looks decent for a weekend car. The problem is that I find myself wanting things like AC and overdrive and I just dont want to spend the time cutting and fabricating to make it work or the money. If I did, all I would think of is how I couldve used that money on a down payment on a newer challenger. When I drive it I enjoy it, I just think that maybe I should move onto something else that will give me everything I want. I built this car with my dad and feel like I would be giving away all the memories by selling it.
 
Many pics are needed. There will be lots of different answers and people wanting to buy. Then the thread gets shut down because it turned into a free for all. Happens every time. We'll see this time. 69 Darts usually fetch $10-20,000 depending on the condition.

So put it away for 6 months and think about if you miss it. If the answer is no then its time to move on and let somebody else enjoy it. BTW awesome ride, you have accomplished something a lot of people only dream of.
 
Nice ride you won’t have any issues moving it along but as stated think about it for a while. Gear vendors OD no cutting tunnel just needs some massaging in a few spots.
 
What's the car cost you? Insurance and gas mostly. I'd think about it if I were you. These things ain't growin on trees you know.
 
keep it. even if you just non-op it and put it in storage for 5yrs, then decide...seriously
 
Agree with all. I wouldn't sell that one if I didn't have to.

If you enjoy the car and it's just some modern upgrades find someone to do the work for you. That is easier said than done but with some research you will find someone near you that can make it happen and do it right with a reasonable price.

However if you just want a modern musclecar your current car won't duplicate that and if you can stomach the insurance and all things $$$$ related to owning something newer I don't blame you one bit. I personally wish my money put into my car would have been put towards something more modern also.....

If you sell it make sure you keep full info on the buyer. Because I expect to see a “where’s my car I want to buy it back “ thread in a few years

No way in hell would I get rid of that! Especially if it was a father son deal. I almost sold my 70 B'cuda vert years ago. Dad and I brought it back from the dead together. Thought I needed the money. Sure glad I didn't. I've owned that car for 31 years now. Don't drive as much as I should, but, it gets out a few times a season yet. I honestly think you'll regret it.
 
Have you driven the newer Challenger ? It's a far cry from your '69, and me being an old gray beard, I don't mean in a better way, but that's me. I just like the old muscle era better probably because I grew up in it.

No doubt the new ones are (usually) faster, definitely smoother riding, and have A/C and a lot of places to plug in, whatever. Yep, creature comforts all over, and they are very nice, but I need the the ruff grunt of the first muscle car era to take me back.

Now you sound a little younger, so your memories are probably of a different era, so my advise is to drive a few of the newer, more civilized muscle cars and if that pleases you, sell this very nice looking Dart for around 16/18k ( est. with limited pictures) and move on. You're selling the car, not the memories.

you can add AC with a Vintage Air or Classic Air Kit, and as stated a Gear Vendors OD unit, or if you don’t have the inclination to do the install yourself have a reliable shop do the install and have what you want.
Depending upon where you live, the AC and OD parts would be a wash with newer car plates and newer car insurance and newer car depreciation in a couple of years.

Agree 100% A/c is a nice creature comfort option for sure and depending on your car, usually ads value down the road. O/D would be great as well. Something I thought about while driving 4 hours north to St Paul earlier this year. A friend found a lock-up 904 for his Barracuda. I bet that lock-up ads a mile or two per gallon. A overdrive, even more.
 
Bad idea to sell a father son project imo. You’ll be regretting it.

You live in the Bay Area. Never really gets that hot ever. 10-15 days out of the year max. Skip the power sucking A/C based on where you live in Cali. I removed all that crap from my 68 Dart.

My suggestion, Save money and sit on the car for a solid year. Maybe sell some parts, side jobs, whatever. Get the Gear Venders OD later on and maybe you and good ol dad can make some more memories. Heck keep an eye out in the for sale ads too.

Every few years or so I help my dad with Upgrades on his 67 Chevelle. I grew up with that car. I usually buy the stuff for him and my payback is time spent with him.

I’m know somebody will be happy with that car. You may not get back what you put into it money wise but the memories are priceless.
 
One thing I would consider OP is renting a newer Challenger for a few days and see if you like it. I say that because sometimes the grass always seems greener on the other side. At the end of the day you may enjoy air leaks, fumes, and something that isn't going to cut corners like it's on a rail like an older car lol.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I guess when you have had a car for so long it sometimes just seems like another car. There definitely is nothing like the sound of an old carbureted V8 that a newer car wont be able to replicate. I think the best decision is to keep the car, save up for the gear vendors and maybe around christmas time, buy it. I do enjoy working on the car, I guess sometimes you just need to take a break from working on it. Especially when parts dont fit and you always have to make it work. Thanks FABO.

How about a 200-4R for a tranny? Do a search on the subject. In fact there is a guy local to me working on a Dart sport that is doing this with a small block. Just another angle for overdrive.
