Knock on wood I’ve been blessed over my years to never having done that to a big or small block. I would say 8.60’s@155mph with a stock 440 block and 9.38@138 with a stock 360 block is pushing them pretty hard. Probably a little quicker than that with my current 360.
 
Aw come on, some JB weld, duct tape and baling wire will fix that right up. LMAO!!!!!
 
I like engines with “sight glasses” built in. You really know what’s going on.

Seriously I hope the driver was not hurt. Lessons learned but once you loose a foot, blankets make way more sense.
 
Anytime I build something that is intended to run in
the 8's, I use an aftermarket block. Never had a converter
explode, and I have killed my share, but at that point it really
wouldn't matter what block it was behind.
 
I've spun a bearing or two, but never any devastation like that!
I did wound a converter slightly, in front of a glide with a brake (and no two-step).

I’ve taken stock forged 440 cranks out in two pieces, one piece with lots of small cracks (every three years) 440 block with a crack up through the mains that I found during rebuild after 275 (8.60 passes) and a few connecting rod mishaps but nothing that looked like that. I’ve been blessed.
